Michele & Joel on safari, with cheetahs in the background - Mon 10 Aug 2009 04:04:17 PM
Mother cheetah and her three cubs. The cubs are close to a year old and are nearly grown, so they're almost as big as Mom. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:23:30 PM
The cheetah family is very tired. The great African cats seem to nap about as much as Scooter, our cat back home. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:24:34 PM

When cheetahs are young, they have an extra-fuzzy patch on their shoulders and upper back. This is to make them appear larger to predators. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:29:10 PM
Our tracker, Isaac, sitting on the front of our safari truck as we approach the cheetahs. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:40:17 PM
A safari truck from another lodge has come to see the cheetahs too - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:42:34 PM
Cheetahs are the fastest land mammal, and are built entirely for speed. Their bodies are very narrow and nimble, with long muscular legs. We didn't get to see one sprint, though. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:44:56 PM
Unlike most of the big cats, cheetahs hunt during the day. - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:38:11 PM

Another termite mound - Sat 08 Aug 2009 03:39:30 PM
Cheetahs claws are always extended. If you see cheetah tracks, you can see the claw prints next to the prints from the pads of their feet. - Mon 10 Aug 2009 04:02:25 PM

Fuzzy shoulders on one of the cubs. The fuzziness is to make them look bigger while they're cubs, and goes away almost entirely in adulthood. -
Look at those legs and muscles! It's easy to see these guys can move fast, even though this cheetah is just walking. -
